I admit to spending my summers reading through unread classics at a leisurely pace. But this summer, as someone who spends way too much time surfing the Internet during the day for work and in the evening for research, I am going to give in to a good, summery book about surfing.
Sea Sirens:A Trot & Cap’n Bill Adventure (viking Books)is a fun, quick paced graphic nove by Amy Chu and Janet K. Lee that reminds us not to take others for granted (especially don’t take cats for granted!) and to listen to our mothers.
The Only Black Girls in Town by Brandy Colbert (LIttle Brown Books) provides history and mystery in a surf side town where where of our Black girls is quite an accomplished surfer.
Surf Mules (Carolrhoda Lab) came out back in 2009 and was Greg Neri’s first YA book. I read and reviewed it here https://wordpress.com/post/crazyquiltedi.blog/1488.
The middle grade novel in verse Samira Surfs written by Rukhsanna Guidroz and lllustrated by Fahmida Azim (Kokila, 2021) sits high on my TBR pile. I’m looking forward to reading this one!
