Once again, I came online convinced that I will only read my email, then get on with my day. Well, that was two hours ago and here I am writing an unplanned blog post. I’ve just got to share some of what I’ve been reading this morning!
An email led me to learn more about JoAnn Hernandez of BronzeWord Latino Authors. Jo Ann is an amazingly energetic and creative force!
From there, i stumbled further down the trail! I hit the GoogleReader.
Susan at ColorOnline first caused me to stray on the the ‘net with mention of Chasing Ray’s SE Asia Roundup. Ray’s wonderful, thoughtful program is all over the blogosphere and gives wonderful attention to often missed books from India, Phillipines, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam… Her posts led me to adding the Mindanao Librarian to by GoogleReader. I’m interested in reading about her work to further the development of libraries in Vietnam. This is such important work in this information age!
Last night, I found the New American Media on Twitter. NAM is a service that collates ethnic media from around the globe. The story of interest: Sudanese woman convicted of wearing pants. Of wearing pants.
I stayed with the GoogleReader where GriotGirl told me able LUSH’s new US webstore. I discovered these products in Taiwan and just love them!
Zetta’s post let me to Amy Bowlian’s blog on SLJ and a dynamic conversation on what schools/educators/teachers/librarians need to do to attack racism. Of course, I kept reading Zetta’s posts, though they often leave me embarrassed about how much I don’t know how how poorly I often phrase my thoughts. From there, I took the time to really digest Laura Atkin’s paper on racism in children’s literature.
I feel something brewing here.I feel a conversation continuing with librarians, authors and bloggers that is not occurring elsewhere. Information is being exchanged. thoughts expressed, emotions are broiling.
As I told Susan, between being gone for so long and then transitioning to back to work, the blogosphere has really gotten away from me. These great reads are getting me back into it! I’ve got to go visit TraderJoe then, get home and post a review of 14 Cows for America at the PicnicBasket.

You’re another person who shames ME, Edi, when it comes to how widely you read and how well-informed you are on global issues…to be honest, I’m feeling like I need to step back from all this debate, though it is vigorous and could lead to perhaps a fledgling movement for change…how does one blog AND get one’s work done?!

Edi,
I’ve been reading a lot of Amy Bowllan’s blog and just picked up Night Fires by George Stanley. I also just subscribed to Mosaic due to Zetta’s blog.
I’m looking forward to more conversation!

Are you reading Mosaic in print or online? I’m finding that I’m spending very little time with my print materials these days.

Me, too…I read the lesson plans online and then watched a video interview with Larry Hill on the website. I read print material when I’m on the train or otherwise in transit…
