In a recent report by the Schott Foundation, my school district was seen as The Worst in the country in terms of Black male graduation rates.  While the powers spin wheels, defending themselves by claiming a 53% rather than 19% rate, I see either as a dreadful wake up call!

One small thing I’m doing in my library is forming reading groups for male students, headed by males.  In trying to recommend books, I’ve been looking for lists of ‘must reads’ for college bound African Americans.  (My school is 96% African American.)  Is there such a list?  If not, what should be on such a list?  RECOMMENDATIONS PLEASE????
