I was in New Mexico last January to visit my son. I think i landed in Lubbock TX and drove through places like Muleshoe TX and Somolia TX to get to Portales, NM. There were no berms on the road, no mileage signs, no grass, no cars, no poles NOTHING! There was an occasional sign to let you know that if you drove off the road, you’d be in sand and your car would sink, I can’t remember how it was worked. Phrases like ‘miles and miles of miles and miles’ and ‘the armpit of the world’ come to mind.
To be fair, that was just one corner of the place. There are numerous national parks and landmarks to see there, they’re all miles and miles apart. I’ve been to Albuquerque and could easily see going there again and adding Taos to my list.
ooooh…I’ve always wanted to go to New Mexico!
