Bloomsbury is ceasing to supply copies of the US edition of Magic Under Glass. The jacket design has caused offense and we apologize for our mistake. Copies of the book with a new jacket design will be available shortly.
Is it just me or does this pattern feel a little manipulative to any one else?

If they were a little farther apart, then I’d believe it. But this book was already in production when the Liar controversy hit. I feel like they should have picked up on this and done both but they probably thought with a debut author they wouldn’t recoup the money are were trying to wait it out.
Just it’s all just a bad situation, but perhaps not a manipulative one.

Keri,
I guess we can keep speculating about the author and the publisher, I don’t think either of them will have much more to say, though I hope I’m wrong. I wish the author well. I think we need to be diligent with Bloomsbury.

Sounds manipulative to me. And anyone noticing they still have not acknowledged that whitewashing is wrong or that they will stop?

They need to do much more to get me back this time. I still won’t sell or promote Bloomsbury. I don’t think Bloomsbury has any authors of color
Bloomsbury can start by giving some finanical support to authors of color. Like paying for writers workshops or stipends so the author’s have more time to write.
They can also donate some books to school where the majority of students are kids of color

Yeah, they never admit that their whitewashing of covers is wrong. 😦
