The other day I was using Excel to create a poster using Latin American flags for my media center. As I found flags for Dominican Republic, Argentina, Honduras… I began to wonder about what books come from these countries that would appeal to young adults. Any ideas? Maybe some picture books or poetry that would work with teens?
Sounds like a great contest, don’t you think! List the countries, author and title for books you think would appeal to teens. When possible, give a brief review. Each posting will get you entered into a drawing for an as yet unidentified prize. Contest closes on 14 October.
Please do include authors from Puerto Rico!

Edi, that sounds like a great contest or Diversity Roll Call.

Love the idea!
I would say In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez. Dominican Republic. teens
I’m so glad that I have a contest about poc to link to now!
An older bok that I enjoyed is Delia’s Way by Olga Barrosical Essex (I think that’s how the author’s name is spelled). It’s set in Panama and it’s got some mature content so I’d say high school and up.
PS I’m almost done with Marcelo and I LOVE IT!!!! it has left such an impact on me, thank you so much for sending me a copy!
