It’s National Library Week! Thursday is Teen Literature Day and hopefully you’re got you book AND spot picked for the Teen Book Drop.
Over at The Picnic Basket, there’s a wonderful homage to librarians from authors Mitali Perkins, G. Neri and Amy Hest. So often, people like teachers and librarians who touch our lives have no idea what they’ve done for us. So, here’s your chance to give a little thanks to the library lady, or guy, who made you feel so special.
I hate to start the posts on such a low note, but I’ve never been able to call to mind a particular librarian (or teacher) who inspired me. I do remember the ladies at the quaint, old Mott Branch Library in Toledo where my dad would take us to find books to read. They were the stay-behind-the-desk kind of librarians, but they always helped me, my brother and sister find what we needed just like every librarian has always done for me. I guess I just remember them because they were the first.

I was *just* thinking of the little librarian who used to work at our local branch–which was so small, it was a “store” in a strip mall near our house. She was short, which made her seem more accessible when I was a kid–she had a Dorothy Hamill hairdo and glasses…I never thought of her as “hip,” just nice, but now I know just how COOL librarians are! Talk about a life of service…
