Half of the workers who built the U.S. Capitol were slaves and the most famous of these was Philip Reid, who supervised the bronze casting of the Statue of Freedom atop the Capitol dome. How Reid achieved in spite of the disappointments of slavery is the theme of “The Biography of Philip Reid: Historical Fiction.”
