Pocketbooks

My mom always has and probably always will call her purse a pocketbook.  Being the literal librarian that I am, I will always think of the paperbacks that were originally developed as ‘pocketbooks’.

A few years ago, I began carrying a book in my purse to read while I stand in line at the post office or grocery store.  Right now, it’s Down These Mean Streets.  I haven’t really gotten into the story yet, but what typically happens is that I’ll get a good read on in the line at the credit union’s drive through window and the book will be so good that  I will move the book from my purse to my sofa so I can finish it! When it really gets good I can’t just leave it in my purse to chance upon a long line.

One thing I’ve developed from this is a joy in finding a long line!   Can you imagine how little it bothered me the day cheese spilled on the highway (yeah cheese!  only in Indiana!) and I had 45 minutes of reading time!!! When there’s no book, there’s email on the cell phone, video games!!  No need to get upset over having to wait!  I’ve learned to use time wisely.

And now, I wonder why purses are called pocket books.
